I achieved a BA Hons. in Fine Art at Kingston-upon-Thames Polytechnic (now University), majoring in Printmaking. A short time in Aberdeen’s Peacock Printmakers resulted in large-scale etchings, woodcuts and screen prints after which I concentrated on landscape paintings in the Aberdeenshire locality. Since moving to Cambridgeshire, I worked for a number of years in ethically traded handcrafts as a Product Designer and Product Development Manager for an international medical charity. Since 2004 I have been painting and exhibiting within the Peterborough area and have taken part in many local exhibitions, noted in my Exhibition History.

Inspirations
My current work is predominately based on contemporary Eastern textiles and more recently, the heritage textile and ceramic collections of the National Trust, the British Museum, the V & A Museum and the V & A’s archive collection at the Clothworkers Museum.
I strive to create a work that reflects the passage of time; the constant wearing of the fabric through handling, sunlight fading and softening the colours and atmospheric tarnishing.

Pushing the boundaries of the traditional surface, I manipulate my chosen mediums to create a unique textural experience for the viewer, with the invitation to examine, explore and touch.

Using handmade Thai and Indian paper, oils, oil pastel, gold and silver enamels on canvas or board, I create panels and also ‘fragments’ which are made from my own handmade paper. Panels and fragments are created over a long period of time and incorporate many layers of paint with the final resin coat providing protection to the delicate work underneath.

Going back to my artistic roots as a Printmaker, I have further developed my love of textile patterns through new Lino prints, and additionally include inspirations from life drawing, nature and travel.
